A "Chilly" Hello to All:
Take cover and hide, the cold blast of the arctic vortex strikes again and parents have exhausted all forms of alternative entertainment for their home bound children due to closing of school! Yikes! When will this winter end?
Well, last week Barb Brekke and Jean Marschall took us for a brief respite from the cold weather to the sunny land of Spain, as they led a discussion on their recent journey walking the famed "Camino" and reigniting a spiritual bond with their God, each other and themselves. The presentation was very interesting and I invited Barb to bring her CD along again this week so the pics can scroll during part of our meeting and we can get a better look at a journey of a lifetime. If you are looking to fill your bucket list, these are the ladies to see!
This week Barb Brekke will introduce us to Kim Latterner and Laura Browers, who will tell us about the very successful early childhood literacy programs, ECFE/PACE. I think they will explain those acronyms when they see us. Our Greeters this week will be the ever popular Jim Conway and Chuck Huss. Our Finemaster this week is Chuck Berg and our Songmasters will be the delightful duo of McNeill and Shukle. If you are scheduled this week for one of these jobs, and can't attend, please see the coordinator of your respective duty so we can be sure to get you a replacement. Also, just a reminder, if you are not sure when you are scheduled for any of the duties such as Finemaster, Songmaster or Greeters Table, you can always check the website, Shakopeerotary.org and on the left hand side all the schedules are listed there. The coordinators keep these updated for you so you can check dates.
Mark your Calendars! Feb. 11 this year is our annual Valentine luncheon at Arizona's. This year we will miss Jim Cook's fun-filled performance, but we have Jim Conway's creative genius to replace him. Jim Conway has an idea for a game to entertain and Lorri Helkamp, Linda Plum and I have worked with Arizona's to create a great day of fun and fellowship. Bring your "special someone" to join you and we will be sure to honor all of them at the luncheon. The cost is $15 per person. We will be passing a sign up sheet around at the meetings so we can get an idea of the numbers of attendees.
Also, start collecting the used books and CD's/Videos at your home. Our annual fundraiser the Book Sale will be coming up in April. Your committee of Libby Bergen, Lynn Pauly, and Jeff Tate are preparing for the book sale this year. Any and all are welcome to help as we hope for another successful year!
