Shakopee Rotary - Weekly Update

Hello Shakopee Rotary!

 

Thank you to Heidi Keyho for her wonderfully entertaining ice breaker last week and thank you to Jon McBroom for providing us updated statistics on the school district.  This week we welcome Jumpin Joe Johnson and our very own Barb Steinhauser to come in and discuss skydiving with our club!  I’ve never been so excited to hear about a subject that I will never take part in (yes I have a severe fear of heights!)  Welcome Joe!   

 

BOOK SALE UPDATE:  Reminder, we are in "Full Book Collection Mode" at this time.  Here is what you need to know right now.

1.     We NEED Books! 

2.     We are having our next two drop off and sorting parties tomorrow, Tuesday, March 15th, from 6:30PM to 8:30PM, AND Saturday, March 19th from 9AM to 11AM, on the location in Southbridge, which is right next to Wal-Mart (at the old Trade Secret location).  Future sorting dates are on the website, and will be communicated to the club at meetings. 

3.     The fund-raising committee has and will continue to send out emails and fliers that you can forward on to any friends/family who may be interested in either donating books, or buying books at the sale.  Please help spread the word!  If we get 200 books from every member, we are all set!

4.     Any questions related to the book sale, please contact Rob D, Jason M, or Mike S.  THANK YOU EVERYONE!

2011 District Conference:  Reminder, the 2011 District Conference will be held on April 15th - 17th up in Alexandria, MN at the Arrowwood Resort & Conference Center. 

HAPPY HOUR!!!:  Our next scheduled Happy Hour is this Tuesday, March 17th…..St.Patricks Day!  We will meet at Arizona’s from 5-7PM, and will be collecting $5 into the kitty to cover appetizers for the group.  Come see the main attraction…..Bill Nevin in green patent-leather dance shoes!!! 

Here are a some up coming dates to keep in mind.  

1.  March 22nd:  No regular weekly meeting.  Replaced by Annual Book Sale kick-off event on Thursday, March 24th @ 6:00pm on location of book sale in Southbridge.  More details to come!

 

2.  March 22nd:  Loaves and Fishes project @ St.Marks in Shakopee.  5-7 Volunteers needed from 2-5PM for preparation, and 10-18 Volunteers needed from 5pm to 7pm for serving and cleanup.  (Sign up sheet to be passed around at weekly meetings OR email Barb Brekke)

 

3.  March 22nd:  Book drop off and sorting party at book sale location in Southbridge.  6:30PM to 8:30PM

 

4.  March 25-27 & April 1-3:  Book Sale Dates.  Mark your calendar, more details to follow. 

 

5.  March 29th:  Make a Wish Foundation – Kelly Thomas (Dangerfields) 

  

6.  April 5th:  District 5950 World Community Service Competitive Grants in Africa - Tim Murphy (Dangerfields) 

 

7.  April 8th:  Trip to the Science Museum (More details to come) 

 

8.  April 12th:  Vocational Talk / Ice Breakers - Tony Spagnolo / Angie Whitcomb (Dangerfields) 

 

9.  April 26th:  Shakopee Celebrates Reading (More details to come)

 

10.  April 30th:  Bridging Event in Shakopee – Save the Date (More details to come)

 

11.  May 3rd:  Murault / Paul Harris Awards Program at Canterbury Inn.  (More details to come)

 

12.  June (Date TBD):  Twins Game (More details to come)

 

13.  June 23rd:  President Exit Meeting (Dangerfields)

 

14.  June 30th:  District Governor Installation Program (Canterbury Inn)
